On Expansion: Grow Sage Outdoors

GROW SAGE OUTDOORS

Two sage plants grow outdoors in my side yard. They were both purchased around the same time, each one in its own small pot. One sage plant was transplanted from the small pot to a large terracotta pot months ago. The second plant has remained in the same exact container that it was born in to.

Sage 1, on the left, has grown to become bold, vibrant, balanced, and able to fully express its shape potential.

Sage 2, on the right, tends to shrivel with ease and is not able to expand. It suffers greatly during changes in the weather. Its lack of access to nutrients is apparent in its weak physique and its inability to weather darker, colder days. It looks different - a duller color - and it smells different, too - sharp and pungent whereas Sage 1 has a robust yet rounded scent.

The container in which you grow sage, or any plant for that matter, may affect its growth pattern and accessibility to max nutrients for the rest of its life. Of course, planting in the ground would be an even better option, if available.
